Summer Reading Recommendations

During the summer is when I get a lot of my reading done; there's more time, the sun makes you want to relax, and if I'm going abroad I always love to take a small stack of books with me.

If you're struggling to find books to get you through these summer months these are just a few of my favourite summer reads!

1. 'Paper Towns' by John Green
'Paper Towns' tells the story of Q, a pretty average guy who has been in love with his neighbour, Margo Roth Speigelman, for as long as he can remember. One night Margo jumps through his window and invites him on a night of mischief and mayhem, when he wakes up the next morning Margo has disappeared and he seems to be the only person interested in finding her.

Paper Towns is the perfect summer read! It's set in Florida (one of my personal favourite holiday destinations), it's set during the summer time, it involves a road trip and it has romance, humour, adventure and fantastically well written characters. Also the movies just recently come out so why not read the book before heading to the cinema?

2. 'Amy and Roger's Epic Detour' by Morgan Matson
'Amy and Roger's Epic Detour' is one of my absolute favourite road trip books! When Amy's mother decides to move to the other side of the country, Amy decides to stay behind to finish her year at school and join her mother once the year has ended. The only problem is, since her father's death Amy hasn't been able to get behind the wheel of a car so Amy's mother enlists the help of a family friend, Roger, to safely drive Amy to the other side of the country. Amy's shocked to find that Roger is actually pretty cute and finds out that he's got an epic road trip planned out which will take them a little bit off course. Armed with an infinite amount of playlists and ready to have fun Amy and Roger have the road trip of a lifetime.

This is a book that cannot be missed! It just screams summer!

3. 'Eleanor and Park' by Rainbow Rowell
'Eleanor and Park' tells the story of young star-crossed lovers Eleanor and Park. Eleanor is new in town and she sticks out like a sore thumb. Her family life is crazy and despite the fact that she's shy her chaotic mane of red hair doesn't allow her to hide. Park is the cool kid at the back of the bus - with his dark clothing, great selection of music and his comic books he's become pretty good at making himself invisible - but not to Eleanor. Slowly but surely a romance that will tug at your heart-strings begins.

There are no words for this book, if you haven't read it please go out and buy a copy! You won't regret it.

4. 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Trilogy by Jenny Han
'The Summer I Turned Pretty' trilogy really is the definition of a summer read. The books follow Isabel 'Belly' Conklin and her summers spent at Cousin's beach with her mother, her brother Steven, her mother's best friend Susannah and Susannah's two sons, Conrad and Jeremiah. Belly has loved Conrad for as long as she can remember but he's never even looked twice at her. Jeremiah is Belly's best friend but he's always felt something a little more for her. Then one summer everyone seems to be looking at Belly differently, she's no longer a little girl, and both brothers suddenly seem to want her. The series follows Belly as she tries to choose between the two people who mean the most to her in the world.

These books aren't particularly well-written, they'll never win any awards or anything but they are super enjoyable and the drama is fab!

5. 'Looking for Alaska' by John Green
Yes another John Green book! I hear a lot of mixed reviews about 'Looking for Alaska' but when I read it I absolutely adored it! When Miles 'Pudge' Halter leaves his home in Florida and enters the crazy world of Culver Creek Boarding School his life is forever changed when he meets his quirky new group of friends and the sexy, mysterious and screwed-up Alaska Young.

I won't write much about this book because I'm a firm believer that people will appreciate this more going into it blind. It's a fantastic book and although it's set in a school it still gives you those summer vibes!

6. 'The Sea Breeze' series by Abbi Glines
Okay so this is a BIG series, I THINK currently there are 9 books in total. However, the books are really really short and they are so easy to get through so they won't take up a ton of time. This series tells the story of 9 different couples (a couple per book) and how they come to be together, the cool thing about this series is that it's all set or centred around the same town so characters from one book appear in another, this means you get to see how the couple from the first book are getting on in the 5th book! I think that's pretty cool!

The romance is fantastic, even if it's a little bit predictable and there are 9 different guys to make you swoon so why not?

I hope some of the recommendations urge you to go out and get reading this summer! Happy reading!
